I was 24 years old when I quit my 9–5 job and became an entrepreneur.

Less than 2 years into the journey, I have tried many ways to build a profitable business. And I have to say it:

It’s hard. It’s extremely hard.

If it wasn’t hard, everyone will do it and companies will have a shortage of workers because everyone will start working on their own business.

My situation may be different than yours. I’m not married, I don’t have bills, and I don’t live in an expensive country. So leaving my 9–5 job was not a big deal for me.

But here’s the thing:

Side hustles shouldn’t take up so much time to build, they don’t require huge financial investments, and more importantly, they shouldn’t suck up your happiness and freedom like startups do. The best thing about side hustles is that you can work on them while keeping your full-time job.

You can even work on them on weekends.

This article will help you take the first step in your journey: Finding the idea.

So here are the 5 most profitable side hustles you can start this weekend for free.

1- Create A Digital Product

Digital products are the #1 most profitable side hustles anyone can start.

They can be as complex as a mobile app or as simple as spreadsheet templates. Just think about something you’re good at. What do people usually compliment you for?

“Hey you make beautiful spreadsheets”, so sell spreadsheet templates.

“Hey your drawings are beautiful”, so sell drawing tutorials.

“Hey you’re very organized”, so sell Notion templates.

We’re in 2021! You can sell anything.

“But I’m not good at anything”, you may say.

This claim is usually wrong. Just ask one of your close friends, “What am I good at?”, “What am I good at that people will be excited to give me money for?”.

Do you love creating memes? Build a memes creation tool.

You don’t need to be a developer to create a digital product. There are a lot of no-code options out there.

For me, I sell mobile apps. For you, it may be different. Just go to product marketplaces like gumroad.com, appsumo.com, or etsy.com and take a look at what people are selling.

Can’t find anything?

Ok, maybe digital products are not the best fit. Continue reading.

2- Flip Products Online

As they say, “One man’s trash, one man’s treasure”.

Flipping products is basically selling products online. And one of the most popular (and annoying) techniques is selling hard-to-find products. Have you checked eBay when the PS5 was out? The PS5 was immediately sold out when it was released. However, flippers used bots to immediately buy PS5s whenever it becomes available anywhere online then sell them on eBay with x2 or x3 the price.

You may think that this is unethical (and it can be), but you don’t need to do it this way. Just sell products you don’t need or don’t use anymore.

Or even better, try finding fixable products, fix them, then sell them on a profit. A lot of technicians with experience in fixing phones are buying broken iPhones at $100–$200, they fix them, and sell them at $400–$500. That’s more than %100 profit.

One more tip for you is to just keep going. Because a lot of times if you just put the work and the effort you can find really good deals.

It’s about the amount of time you’re willing to put in.

3- Organize Networking Events

If you enjoy planning events, are highly organized, enjoy working with people, and are great at following tight deadlines, you should consider becoming an event planner.

Noah Kagan, from AppSumo, started an event planning business back in 2006 and ended up making more than $50,000. He just booked a free room on Stanford’s campus and told everyone about it.

He wasn’t intending to make money, he just organized events he would love to attend.

So think about it. Is this what you want?

4- Sell Baked Goods

If people always complement your homemade cookies or bread it can be a really good side hustle for you.

All you need is to tell your friends on social media, and you will be surprised how many people will respond (of course it depends on your friends). You can also use Google forms to create a list of cookies & bread you’re selling and let people easily order your baked goods.

It’s an easy business that can be done on the side with your full-time job. Then, if people really like your products they will start recommending them to their friends.

And why not, maybe this will become your own full-time business.

5- Create Content On YouTube

Growing a YouTube channel is easier than ever. You already have all you need in your hands, your phone. Today’s phone cameras today are so good that you don’t even need to buy a professional $10,000 Canon camera.

Remember, you’re not doing this full-time. You’re doing it as a side-hustle. So if you want to be consistently working on your Youtube channel you need to do something you enjoy talking about.

Otherwise, you will get bored after 10 or 20 videos and just give up.

Honestly, a Youtube channel is not the fastest way to make money in the short term. But if you think long-term, it can be the most profitable business on this list.

Just pick a topic you love. Avoid saturated markets like tech reviews and gaming. And keep going.

If you keep pushing high-quality content consistently, I can guarantee you will build a profitable business in less than a year.

Conclusion

So the takeaway from this article is that everyone can build a profitable side hustle without leaving their day job. Most side hustles can be started today.

The most profitable side hustles are:

  • Create a digital product
  • Flip products online
  • Organize networking events
  • Sell baked goods
  • Create content on Youtube
